Derek Hough’s Emmy submission. According to PDH, an individual choreographer can submit up to 5 dances as a body of work for nomination. I was thinking about Derek’s options this year and what I would submit if I were him.
I liked the Space Dance he did with Mark & the contemporary dance he did with Alison Holker, but sharing choreography duties may disqualify them as part of an individual submission. Plus, the Space Dance didn’t impress me as much as Derek’s dances with Shawn. Only his dance with Alison H. could possibly (maybe) displace a Shawnough dance.
The Dance with Brilyn. Overcoming the challenges of choreographing with someone with vision limitations makes this dance stand out, but I’m not sure if the Emmy people would focus on that or the actual dance movements which were not that special. Don’t know how they judge them.
Shawnough Dances. Mambo is easily #1 for me, a must include Emmy submission imo. TONS of content. Very unique moves. Perfect execution. QuickStep is #2. Again, content, moves & perfect execution. Bhangra is my #3. It showcased Derek’s versatility. #4 & #5 are hard for me to pick. Titanic rumba showed his skill in interpreting story via dance. Jive had exceptionally dense & difficult movement. Samba was out of the box. Freestyle had great showmanship. I guess I’d do Samba #4 & Rumba #5.
Anyone else have thoughts on what you’d submit if you were Derek?
